It has been a week already since I completed my spring 10×10 challenge and I have to say, those 10 outfits taught me a lot in just a week’s time.
If you’re curious about what a 10×10 challenge is, it is 10 items from your closet that you use to create 10 outfits over 10 days. I will add that I did not count accessories or shoes in my 10 items. (It was my first challenge and I didn’t want to dive right straight into the deep end, if ya know what I mean.)
Now let’s get to the good stuff. I am so very glad that I completed this challenge because like I said earlier I learned a lot about myself and my personal style.
Here was my biggest lesson:
Lesson 1. I HAVE WAY TOO MANY CLOTHES
I have so many clothes that I don’t wear and I am missing a lot of pieces that would make my closet much more functional. Here’s a for instance – I have sooo many dresses/skirts that I never wear. Mostly because they are old or no longer my style. Which now I realize means, it’s time to let go of those pieces. I am also lacking in the spring shoe department for the same reasons. Not that you necessarily need those things, this challenge just revealed to me all of the items in my closet that I am hanging on to and I really have no reason to.
Lesson 2. A small/curated wardrobe makes getting ready super EASY
This was a wonderful thing to learn from this challenge. You know the saying, closet full but nothing to wear? Well this is the exact opposite, a few items that are easily interchangeable, equals LOTS to wear. And I think that point right there has completely changed my mindset when it comes to buying clothes. If it isn’t a versatile piece, then the likelihood of me buying it now is very, very low. If you had asked me that question this time last year, my answer would have been a lot different.
Lesson 3. I missed variety
I have been asked what I missed most during this challenge, and that would have to be variety. Which honestly, I think reflects my closet. I tend to buy the same thing over and over again and that made me realize I need to branch out just a hair. Maybe add a few more textures or colors to my wardrobe and certainly a few more versatile pieces, like skirts + dresses. I also realized that my short department isn’t quite up to par either, so we’ll be working on that as well for the spring/summer season.
Lesson 4. Accessories are important
Accessorizing has never been my strong suit, but I learned that with a smaller wardrobe, accessories become increasingly more important. If I could do the challenge again, which I would like to, I would definitely incorporate more pieces like bandanas + hats (not sure why I didn’t in the first place, I mean do you see that hat wall 😅). The clothes may be the same, but accessories like those can instantly transform the outfit. With that being said, I am definitely considering upping my accessory game now.
I hope you all enjoyed seeing my 10X10 challenge. I would really like to do it again, especially as the weather warms up.
