At the start of spring this year, I had to do a serious overhaul of my warm weather wardrobe. You can read more about that here. But long story short, my spring/summer wardrobe wasn’t in the best shape. I’ve been working hard over the past few months to create an intentional closet, a capsule that is filled with versatile and classic pieces that are representative of my style. And now that we are halfway through June (I cannot believe it!), I am feeling much more confident about my spring/summer wardrobe.
My style tends to be classic, neutral and somewhat menswear inspired and while I could have told you my go to outfit for fall/winter in the blink of an eye, it would have taken much longer to come up with my summer uniform. But now that I have overhauled my warmer weather clothes, I tell you this with no problem! And I am super excited to share.
My summer uniform is made up of five pieces. The first and most important being a go-to white shirt. Whether it is a cami, a button up, or a t-shirt, in my opinion a white shirt is the perfect blank canvas for any outfit (especially in the warmer months). A layering piece also needs to be included and my most worn layer in spring and summer is my denim jacket. You can literally throw one over anything, hence the reason it is included.
I also really enjoy an elevated pair of shorts. I know everyone loves their denim cutoffs in spring and summer, but those can only take you so far. I love a high waisted pair of linen shorts or a paperbag waist – a pair that you can take from day with a t-shirt to night with heels and a blazer. Last but certainly not least are a pair of flat sandals, that you could dress up or down and a straw bag. That bag could be a rattan circle bag or a straw tote. Either way, no spring wardrobe is complete without one.
Let me tell you, it has been a long time coming but being semi-confident in my ENTIRE wardrobe now is such a great feeling. Definitely worth the hard work!
I also wanted to share with you three girls I am lucky enough to know here in Asheville, that are on similar style paths as myself. Brooke, Kirby and Stephanie are all three about versatile pieces and are all striving to create intentional closets. Be sure to check them out, they all have fabulous style ideas for the summer.
