Alright y’all spring has officially sprung and it’s time to get our closets in shape. For me, spring/summer outfits kind of intimidate me. But this time around I’m going to work hard to change that. I want to become just as confident in my spring/summer wardrobe as I am in fall/winter. So if you feel the same way, here is my survival guide to a strong spring closet.
one // Closet Clean Out
Does it spark joy my friends? You know that Marie Kondo-ish. Seriously though, here are a few questions I ask myself.
- Have you worn it in the last two years?
- If it were new today, would you buy it?
- Does it still represent your style?
- Is it an item you love?
If you answer NO to ANY of those questions, it’s time to part ways with that piece.
two // create a capsule wardrobe
Let’s first define a capsule wardrobe. When I say capsule, I mean a smaller, pared down wardrobe filled with classic, timeless + versatile pieces that you love. You can read all about my 40 piece spring capsule here (it even comes with your very own checklist!).
Step 1. Whittle down the duplicates in your closet
We took care of the loved pieces in our first step, now let’s think about something else – how many items are actually in YOUR closet. Do you really need 10 pairs of black leggings or dark denim?
Step 2. Define your color palette
Do you like color in your closet? Or are you more of a neutral person? For me, I love my neutrals so it doesn’t make sense for me to have a hot pink piece in my capsule wardrobe. Keep the colors that you are most comfortable in and that you wear the most often.
Step 3. What pieces are you missing?
Every capsule closet needs the classics. I have a free downloadable for you (click here) for my version of what every capsule closet needs.
three // Do a 10×10 Challenge
It’s hard to transition your closet between seasons, at least it is for me, especially transitioning from winter to spring. A great way to catapult you into the season is with a 10×10 challenge, which is taking 10 items from your closet and creating 10 outfits with them over 10 days. This will really strengthen your closet confidence and also reveal versatile/classic pieces you may be missing. If you happen to want to do one of those challenges, feel free to join me as I try my very first one Mar 30th – April 8th. Maybe you don’t want to participate but want to see all of my outfits, you can follow me here on Instagram to catch all the fun!
That’s it my friends, I hope this helps you.
