I am so glad we took a day out of our Rome trip to visit Venice, words cannot describe this city’s beauty. We took a train ride up from Rome, which meant getting up at 4:30 that morning (yuck) but we wanted to squeeze in everything we possibly could in that one day. When we arrived we got our Vaporetto ticket and went cruising down the Grand Canal. We did this instead of a boated tour simply because of time. The weather wasn’t the greatest, it was cold and it started sprinkling on us about half way through the day. But even on a gloomy day, Venice is undescribable.
We went to St. Mark’s Basilica first thing. After touring the church we went up in the camponile, the tallest point in Venice, for the best views. Was this real life? We spent the rest of our time walking around and getting lost in the narrow streets.
We ate at two amazing restaurants — Trattoria da Jonny for lunch and Osteria al Cicheto for dinner. These were our favorite meals of the whole trip. I am still dreaming of the pasta from Osteria al Cicheto. And it is definitely true what they say — to get the most authentic food diverge from the tourist spots and walk down the alley ways to find where the locals go.
It was cold the day we were there and this coat I scored from Ann Taylor (for $60!!) came in very handy. I also loved my new boots I bought for this trip. They were beyond comfortable and they made me feel like I belonged in Italia. I know my dark hair and olive colored skin helped a lot too 😉.
