Hey guys … this is going to be a bit of a different post for me but here goes … Lately I have gotten a few questions about blogging and with that I decided to start a blogging tips page for you guys where I will talk about what I have learned and how you all can benefit from what I know or at least what I think I know. For starters I wanted to cover what I feel like are essential blogging tips for all bloggers of any genre that are just starting out or feel stuck.
Here’s the thing, I have only been blogging for about a year now and perhaps I don’t have a huge following (yet) but I do think I have grasped what it takes to make your blog successful. I just haven’t quite figured out how to execute those ideas due to time and resources. So I decided to take a different route and share these essential parts of a successful blog with you and hopefully you can put both pieces of the puzzle together and find your success.
- Find Your Niche — I’m sure you all know that the blogosphere is super saturated right now and being honed in on a specific topic for your blog is more important than ever. But trying to be specific is hard, at least for me because I feel like an overall generic girl. But let’s focus on you. How are you DIFFERENT than everyone else? What are you super obsessed with? Something that could be incorporated into your blog. Speaking to fashion blogs, perhaps you sew your own outfits, you have vintage style, or you are petite or plus size? That should be what you specifically target in your blog and build around that. Think about it this way — if someone looked at your blog or your social media accounts what would stand out to them? What makes you recognizable and memorable amongst the crowd? Finding your niche can be difficult, I’ll admit it. It is quite difficult to find your footing with a non-specific blog and I particularly don’t want to be forgotten along with all of the other thousands of generic fashion blogs. When I say non-specific I mean going beyond a fashion or lifestyle blog … what type of fashion? Like I mentioned earlier petite, boho, vintage. But what if you aren’t petite or boho? You may feel like I do when I say I feel pretty generic. Well here is what I can offer to remedy that and what I am trying to do more in my blog and that is honing in on your personal style. Pick a few things about your style that you can incorporate into each social media or blog post that would tie everything together. Maybe a certain hairstyle, a red lipstick, a pair of glasses or a hat, or a certain color palette. That leads me to my next point.
- Be consistent. You have to, have to, have to be consistent. At least until you get your following and then you can veer off a bit. I know I struggle with this, trying to be consistent takes a lot of time and effort, a lot of time I tend not to have. But I have a goal for myself of being more consistent and finding those pieces or features that will make me recognizable and pull everything together. It may simply be finding a pose or two that make you feel confident and trying to nail those each time you post a fashion pic to Instagram or begin to edit your photos in the same tone and temperature, etc. But no matter what, stay consistent to your style.
I really think if you hammer down on these two points your blog following will grow. Figuring out how to execute these two points for me is my biggest hurdle … perhaps that will be my next blogging tips post.
